The 05/11 Carbine can be identified by its five-digit serial number beginning with the number "2". As both the 1900 Short Rifle and the 1905 Cavalry Carbine both started with the serial number "1", the 1900 Short Rifle retained its original serial number and the number "2" was added in front of the original 1905 Cavalry Carbine's four digit serial number to avoid duplicated serial numbers at the time of conversion. 00/05 Carbine serial numbers range from 20001 to 27900.
