Bolts with electropenciled serial numbers are common on K31 carbines produced in 1943-1944. These had bolt sleeves manufactured using chromium-molybdenum steel instead of chrome-nickel steel due to material shortages during World War 2, and were later replaced with chrome-nickel steel. The serial number on the replacement bolt sleeved was electropenciled instead of stamped as they had already been hardened, preventing stamping. More information on this is available at SwissWaffen.
Furniture has a beautiful wood grain pattern and appears to be very clean. It has been previously refinished and has a clear gloss coating applied. It was overapplied around the butt of the stock, resulting in a somewhat rough texture and some light pooling. Despite very little handling wear present, there is an unrepaired crack about 2.5" in length found on the right side of the stock around the finger groove, preventing a 5/5 grade.
Receiver has light to mild finish wear throughout. Light edge wear around the loading slot and the forward edge. Fair to moderate finish wear around the rear barrel band. Light finish wear around the front barrel band. Both barrel bands have some mild tooling marks around the mounting screws. Some spots of light finish wear on the magazine plate. Mild edge wear and light finish wear on the trigger guard. Mild edge wear and finish wear on the magazine base.
W+F BERN K-type diopter sights are installed. Rear diopter is an original W+F BERN diopter with six selectable apertures. Front sight is a K-type tunnel front sight.
