Product Description
Swiss model 1899 dress sword with scabbard. Nickel plated steel with an ornate design on both sides of the unsharpened blade. Light pitting throughout the blade. Washer around the blade at the ricasso is present.
The blade does not have a Swiss ordnance stamp, which also means there is no blade number nor issue year.
One side of the ricasso is engraved with the original seller's information:
SCHWEIZ
Uniformenfabrik
BERN-ZURICH-GENF
A forge stamp depicting a knight is found on the other side of the ricasso, which is Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Company (WKC) of Solingen, Germany.
There is no roman numeral stamped on the blade which would have indicated the sword size; we've measured the blade length at about 35.25" and overall length at about 41.125", which would translate very close to a size III. This was the longest size available, and not as common as size I or size II.
Leather finger loop is in fine condition. Shagreen grip is in good condition with light to mild wear, and the grip wrapping is also in good condition.
Included Swiss military officer's portepee's leather is dry and has broken. Stitching is heavily worn. Portepee has yellowed.
Surface scratches noted throughout the scabbard.
