Swiss M1889/92 Bicycle Bayonet - sn 77207
Swiss model 1889/92 Bayonet (Vierkant-Stichbajonett Modell 1889/92), also known as the model 1892 or as the M1900 Bayonet. No scabbard.
Bluing is worn overall. Edge wear throughout. Tip of the blade has heavily worn finish and mild pitting. Mild to heavy finish wear throughout the guard, muzzle ring. and grip. Brazing on the bayonet lug.
Muzzle ring measures 14mm in diameter.
These were manufactured by converting an older 1863 or 1871 Vetterli socket bayonet: the socket was removed and a new crosspiece and grip with lock was welded on.
These bayonets were issued to machine gunners, fortress guard, and arguably most famously with Swiss Bicycle Troops, with several service weapons: Schmidt-Rubin 1889, 1896/11, 1897 Kadet Rifle, 1900 Short Rifle, and K11 Carbine. The serial number and muzzle ring diameter indicates that it was issued with a K11 Carbine produced in 1918.
