Rare Swiss SIG SP 47/8 - Swedish Contract - sn 64xx
Swiss SIG model SP47/8, the precursor to the SIG P49/P210, in very good condition with 80% original finish. 3/5 Bore. Frame, slide, and barrel matching serial numbers.
Fair to moderate finish wear throughout the frame. Heavier finish wear found along the high area on both sides. Heavy mark in the frame below the slide stop lever from its usage, removal, and reinstallation. Finish wear on the safety selector lever and finish wear in the safety selector groove on the frame.
Frame is stamped with the serial number on the left side at the high area, to the left of the slide stop lever. Slide is stamped on the left side of the frame with "S.P.47/8 SIG.".
Slide has light finish wear throughout. Slide has mild edge wear around the muzzle and light to mild edge wear along the upper edge on both sides. Marks in the finish on the ejector on the right side. Loaded chamber indicator found on the slide just like what is seen on the P210-4. There is a pin running through the slide at the rear serrations.
Wood grips have light pressure marks from handling wear throughout. Both grips have a crack on the backstrap below the beavertail. The left side grip has a 1/4" crack that does not appear to go all the way through the grip. The right side grip has an approximately 1" crack and it appears a repair has been attempted with some glue.
Includes one spare magazine.
Packaged inside non-original plain box (not pictured). The box lid has a handwritten label with "Schweden" (Sweden) and "9mm". There is also a separate maroon colored box that includes a stack of paper targets and what appears to be a Lienhard 4mm pellet conversion barrel. This barrel would have been inserted into the existing barrel. Special cartridges were used that would accept a Berdan primer and a 4mm lead pellet and were used for training at short range. None of these cartridges were included with the pistol nor the conversion package.
Also includes a photocopied sheet from the SIG ledger that shows a date of "22 March 1948" for this pistol serial number.
As the serial number is within the serial number range 6059 to 6540, as well as the included photocopied page, this SP47/8 was one of up to 500 pieces manufactured for a Swedish contract that was delivered in February and March 1948 to Sandvikens Järnhandel.
Includes military leather holster with shoulder sling. Holster's leathermaker stamp shows that it was made by a "CHR.BALMER" of Muhleberg (Canton Bern) in 1953.
