Antique Swiss 1896/11 Infantry Rifle, produced in 1898, in very good condition with 85% original finish. 5/5 Bore. 3/5 Stock. Stock and handguard matching serial numbers. Bolt matching serial number. Magazine matching serial number.
Furniture may have been previously sanded as the Swiss military acceptance stamp on the right side of the stock is not visible, however there are still handling marks throughout the furniture.
On the right side of the stock, there are a couple of light scrapes above the pistol grip, below the comb. Light pressure marks around the finger groove and inside the left side. On the left side of the stock, there are some mild gouges, mild pressure marks, and light scrapes around the butt. Heavy handling wear on the side of the stock from the grip to the finger groove, with many light to mild pressure marks and light gouges. There is a gouge on the inside of the finger groove below the upper edge and a pair of light gouges on the bottom edge. On the forearm there are multiple mild pressure marks between the stock and handguard before the rear barrel band, and there are a couple of fair to moderate gouges in front of the rear barrel band, in between the stock and handguard. The stock is heavily worn and chipped at the forward edge in front of the front barrel band. On the underside of the stock there is a gouge on the right side of the magazine plate in front of the mag catch and on the forearm there are a pair of heavy gouges near the front barrel band. Mild pressure marks along the comb of the stock. The handguard has a light pressure mark on the right side before the rear barrel band and mild pressure marks on the top side in front of the rear barrel band.
Receiver has light to mild finish wear, with the heavier finish wear on the top side of the receiver around the pair of lightening cuts and on the left side in between the loading slot and the lightening cut. Light scratches in the finish at the rear of the receiver. Rear barrel band has mild tool marks around the mounting screw. Front barrel band has light finish wear. Light to mild finish wear on the barrel. Light finish wear and light patina on the magazine plate. Light edge wear, light finish wear, light patina, and surface marks on the trigger guard. Light to mild finish wear and light patina on the magazine base.
Receiver is P 56 stamped. ·9 stamped below the serial number, indicating armory refurbishment in 1909.
Includes muzzle cover and leather sling. The sling is torn about halfway through near the front sling stud.
