Product Description
This is the Third Model 1873 in rifle configuration with 24" barrel, manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Well known as "The Gun that Won the West". Chambered in .44-40 (.44 Winchester). It is in excellent condition with 95% bluing. 4/5 Bore. 4/5 Stock. Furniture is non-serialized. Case hardened frame. Receiver has some light pitting. Serial number suggests that this rifle was likely produced in the early to mid 1880s. Winchester 1873 models typically saw heavy use, but this example was refurbished at some point as the bluing is very dark with little wear in the finish and the furniture is in very good condition. There is a light discolor around the muzzle from surface frost. The magazine tube retainer is not affixed to the barrel as the barrel's associated dovetail is offset, indicating the barrel had been replaced during refurbishment. The barrel band is missing one of two screws. Some of the screws show evidence of tooling. Furniture has a high gloss finish. Stock has relatively limited handling marks with regard to its age and use. Fore end does have two small cracks and what appears to be a repair. Bore has some light pitting. Rifle is configured with a set trigger which was not a standard configuration and available as a "special order" option.
Antique; no import engraving.
