Product Description
Swiss model 1899 dress sword (galadegen) with scabbard. Nickel plated steel. Unsharpened blade has a sunburst Swiss federal cross design just past the ricasso. Light surface scratches and a few scattered marks from light pitting throughout the blade. Washer around the blade at the ricasso is present.
The blade does not have a Swiss ordnance stamp, which also means there is no blade number nor issue year.
One side of the ricasso is stamped with the supplier/seller's mark Ulrich Bommer & Company of Zurich. The other side of the ricasso is stamped with a forge stamp from manufacturer Alexander Coppel of Solingen, Germany (scale with the letter A to the left and C to the right).
Basket guard and the back of the grip has a light yellow tint.
Leather finger loop is in very good condition. Shagreen grip is in very good condition with light wear and light discoloration from handling and age, and the grip wrapping is also in good condition.
Included Swiss military officer's portepee is in very good condition. The portepee has discolored with age. The tassel's red silk and red Saffiano leather is in very good shape.
Surface scratches throughout the scabbard. Scabbard has a dent near the midpoint on both sides. Scabbard includes a leather hanger; hanger has a sattler stamp indicating it was made by Rob. Niederdorfer of Ruti (Canton Zurich) in 1889.
