Product Description
Swiss model 1889/92 Bayonet (Vierkant-Stichbajonett Modell 1889/92), also known as the model 1892 or as the M1900 Bayonet. These were manufactured by converting an older 1863 or 1871 Vetterli socket bayonet: the socket was removed and a new crosspiece and grip with lock was welded on. Bluing on bayonet is intact but does exhibit wear as expected. Bayonet only, no scabbard included.
These bayonets were issued to machine gunners, and fortress guard, and arguably most famously with Swiss Bicycle Troops, with several service weapons: Schmidt-Rubin 1889, 1896/11, 1897 Kadet Rifle, 1900 Short Rifle, and K11 Carbine. The serial number suggests that this could have been issued to either an 1889 (1891), 1897 Cadet Rifle (1914), or 1900 Short Rifle (1909), however please note that the muzzle ring diameter is smaller than expected, with measurement of 0.56" (14mm) so it will only fit carbine barrels like the K11 Carbine.
