Product Description
Set of Swiss Faschinenmesser 1878 (fascine knife) with model 1889/92 cyclist-type stick bayonet, with scabbards and leather frog. Known as "Gotthardbesteck".
Faschinenmesser 1878, serial number 8181, was made by SIG Neuhausen in 1887, and is one of an estimated 14,000 produced. Blade has light pitting. Brass guard has multiple light surface marks. Grips are hard rubber. Left side grip has a crack perpendicular to the grip.
1889/92 stick bayonet, serial number 118754, has light patina throughout. Serial number on the stick bayonet indicates that it would have been issued with an 1889 Infantry Rifle produced in 1893.
Faschinenmesser 1878 includes scabbard and leather frog. Sattler stamp on the frog is illegible, only the year of 1884 can be barely read. Stick bayonet includes scabbard that is attached to the fascine knife scabbard.
This set would have been issued to alpine engineers and fortress troops.
