The Swiss 1817/42 began as the Swiss 1817 Flintlock Musket, which was updated in 1842 for conversion into percussion ignition. It is in very good condition with 90% original finish (correctly not blued). 2/5 Bore. 5/5 Stock. Stock matching serial number. All visible serial numbers are matching. Furniture has relatively few and light handling marks with consideration to the advanced age of this firearm; there are some small dents found on the left side of the stock near the trigger. Toe of stock is marked with "E 196" and the left side of the stock near the butt is stamped with "196" and also has a stamp of a V within a circle. Right side of stock is stamped with a coat of arms and is also stamped twice with a V in circle. Metal surfaces are very clean and bright, with only the hammer and right hand plate with some light patina. The bore has mild pitting and rust. Includes socketed bayonet with non matching serial number; bayonet is marked with number 18. Light patina on bayonet. Antique; no import engraving.
